Desonide (Desowen) Tips from Pharmacists

  • Use desonide only on intact skin. Applying it on broken or wounded skin can lead to side effects due to increased absorption of the medicine into your bloodstream.

  • Wash your hands after using desonide to remove any residual medicine. Avoid getting this drug into your eyes. Corticosteroids can increase the risk of eye problems like blurred vision, cataracts, and glaucoma. If you get desonide into your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and see an eye doctor if the eye irritation persists.

  • Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or dressing unless your healthcare provider has told you to do so. It can lead to increased absorption and more severe side effects.

  • Check with your doctor before using desonide in sensitive areas such as the vaginal and rectal areas, armpits, and skin creases.

  • Shake Verdeso foam well before use. The foam is flammable. Do not use it near a fire or flame.
