Flovent HFA is effective as a maintenance treatment for asthma. It helps to reduce the frequency and severity of asthma attacks.
It can be used in children 4 years of age and older.
Inhaled steroids such as Flovent HFA (inhaled fluticasone) cause fewer side effects than oral corticosteroid drugs (pills taken by mouth).
In addition to the aerosol (Flovent HFA), inhaled fluticasone is available in other dosage forms, such as a fine powder for inhalation (dry powder inhaler) called Flovent Diskus.
Flovent HFA is not a rescue medication for acute asthma exacerbations. You cannot use it to treat an asthma attack that has already started.
You need to use Flovent HFA (inhaled fluticasone) twice every day regularly.
You must rinse your mouth (without swallowing) after each use of Flovent HFA to lower the risk of fungal infections in the mouth and throat.
Flovent Diskus contains small amounts of lactose and is not suitable for people with a milk protein allergy.
